Аннотация доклада:

Modularity of Mind: Remarks on the Music/Language Connection

In this talk, I review the theory of cognitive modularity (Fodor 1983, Jackendoff 1986) with regard to 2 specific cognitive modules: Language and Music. I then present and critique recent theoretical and empirical work on the music/language connection with regard to the central theoretical issues that modularity hypotheses rely on: domain specificity and independent use of mental resources. Recent work on the music/language connection such as Pesetsky & katz (2010) and Patel (2008) are central to this debate, but both need careful investigation and critique, which I provide in this talk. In conclusion, I examine consequences for questions of evolution and future research.
